Manal Hasan, Libya

"I am in the middle of my Masters Program at RMIT University." Prior to starting her Masters program, Manal studied at REW for 50 weeks, learning English and acquiring the necessary academic skills for higher education study in Australia. Manal's scholarship allowed her to study in Australia, Canada or America but she chose Australia and Melbourne because the Masters program she sought was on offer here. Manal left most of the research about Australia, study options and agents to her brother, who also travelled to Melbourne to embark on a Masters program.

"I studied English part-time in Libya when I was working as a teaching assistant at Al Gebel Al Garbi University, so I was able to understand people and interact with them as soon as I arrived in Melbourne. Melbourne is very multicultural and I have had no problems finding suitable food, there is a Halal butcher close by where I live".

"I met people from China, Vietnam, Kuwait, Mongolia, Taiwan, Iraq, Korea and Saudi Arabia. Studying at REW is great and I would study there again if I had the opportunity, it was like my home, my family. The Advanced and Advanced Plus levels were very helpful, especially the new course materials. It was definitely good preparation for university life."

"Studying at REW improved my English dramatically, I now have the ability to write essays and reports; research and analyse information; and give presentations."

Aiman H. Saleh, Libya

"Studying the EAP course has given me a great opportunity to improve my academic English skills. The course has offered me essential information, contact with generous people, and a confident feeling to start my higher degree."

Salwa Tashkandi and Majdi Shwkat Tashkandi, Saudi Arabia

"We came to Melbourne in 2009 with our three sons now aged, 12, 8 and 2, to begin studying English at REW". Prior to Melbourne, Salwa was teaching first year students at King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah where she was encouraged by her employer to take on further study. After researching RMIT's internationally recognised Art and Design programs and speaking to education counsellors in Jeddah, she attended an education expo and spoke to RMIT international representatives directly about her program. Upon successful completion of REW's Advanced English course, Salwa could go directly into her PHD program without having to sit an IELTS or TOEFL test.

"Madji has a cousin who had lived in Melbourne who said it was a beautiful, safe and friendly city. We managed to find accommodation quite quickly and enrol our sons at local schools. We also found cooking ingredients we would use at home in grocery stores in Brunswick so I've still been able to cook the food we love."

"The teachers are very good and come from Australia, New Zealand, India, Belgium and the USA, so we have experienced many different accents. This has been useful for University. If you want a good job in Saudi Arabia you must speak English and be able to use a computer, REW has allowed us to develop both of these skills."

"I would like to thank the teachers at REW for helping me improve my English during my short time (15 weeks) at REW. I could not have done it without their professional skills and attitude. The staff in the ILC were also fantastic. I am looking forward to the next step for my studies."
